Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the final weeks of the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea are linked with Cedric Soares…
Chelsea are lining-up a bid for Southampton full-back Cedric Soares as Antonio Conte looks to bring in three new players before the end of the month, according to the Telegraph.
Conte has made no secret of his desire to further strengthen before the transfer window closes as the Italian coach knows his squad isn’t strong enough to compete on all fronts this season.
The Blues have snapped-up Alvaro Morata, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Willy Caballero and Antonio Rudiger but they’ve also lost John Terry, Nemanja Matic, Asmir Begovic, Nathan Ake and Nathaniel Chalobah while Diego Costa is also expected to leave.
Therefore, Conte needs to recruit fresh blood over the coming weeks and strengthening his full-back options is a priority with the Premier League champions now seemingly turning their attention to Soares.
The Telegraph claim that Conte sees the Portuguese international as the ideal addition as he’d be able to offer competition to Victor Moses in the right wing-back role and be an option at right-back if the Chelsea boss wants to switch formations.
Soares has impressed at Southampton since joining from Sporting Lisbon in 2015 and the newspaper says Chelsea are now lining up a bid with an opening offer of around £15m mooted.
The report says the 25-year-old is also regarded as a cheaper alternative to other targets such as Serge Aurier or Joao Cancelo but it remains to be seen whether Southampton will be open to doing business for the right-back.
Conte is also looking to strengthen his midfield options with the Telegraph naming Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Leicester’s Danny Drinkwater as his two main targets but no progress has been made on deals for either player as yet.
The newspaper says Conte ideally wants to bring in three more players before the transfer window closes and Chelsea are expected to make another attempt to sign Juventus star Alex Sandro.
The Brazilian international has developed in to one of the best attacking left-backs in Europe over the past few years so he’d provide stiff competition for Marcos Alonso if he was to move to Stamford Bridge.
