Man Utd & Chelsea On Red Alert After Euro Giants Agree To Sell 24-Year-Old Target

Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the final weeks of the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Andre Gomes is on the market…

Manchester United and Chelsea have been placed on red alert after Barcelona made midfielder Andre Gomes available for transfer during the closing stages of the window, according to Calciomercato.

Gomes earned a big-money move to the Nou Camp only last summer after impressing during a two-year spell with Valencia but his time with Barca hasn’t gone according to plan.

The 24-year-old struggled to hold down a starting place in Luis Enrique’s starting eleven last season and his chances of regular action under new boss Ernesto Valverde look just as bleak this campaign.

It looks like Barca are now ready to cash-in on the midfielder as Calciomercato claim that the Catalans have told Valverde he needs to trim his squad and Gomes is one of the players who’s been made available for transfer.

A move to the Premier League could now be on the cards as the outlet says Man Utd and Chelsea have been alerted to the news after Gomes was told he has no future at the Nou Camp.

Jose Mourinho recently snapped-up Nemanja Matic but the United boss is keen to further strengthen his squad before the transfer window closes and he might jump at the chance of signing a player of Gomes’ quality.

Antonio Conte is perhaps the more likely of the two managers to make a formal move for Gomes as the Blues boss is desperate to sign more players this month and central midfield is an area of priority following Matic’s exit.

Chelsea have been linked with the likes of Danny Drinkwater in recent days but Gomes has the quality to be a far superior player to the Leicester man so I’d be surprised if Conte wasn’t already on the phone to Barcelona.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks but I think Gomes would be a superb signing for Chelsea or United as the Portuguese international is a hugely talented player who has a big future in the game if he’s given a chance to develop.

I would MUCH rather we bought Sergio Roberto, as he is much more versatile and proven CL player. Gomes has been a huge bust for Barca and I can’t see him coping with the speed and physicality of the EPL.
