Arsenal, Liverpool & Chelsea Open Talks To Sign £32m Attacker
Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea have all made contact with Paris Saint-Germain to discuss the potential signing of Julian Draxler this summer
Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the final weeks of the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, English clubs express their interest in Julian Draxler….
Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea have all made contact with Paris Saint-Germain to discuss the potential signing of Julian Draxler this summer, according to a report in the Daily Star.
The German international’s future at the Parc des Princes has been called in to question over the past week despite only joining PSG from Wolfsburg during the 2017 January window.
The 23-year-old scored 10 goals in his 25 appearances during the second half of last season but his place in Unai Emery’s starting eleven is in serious doubt following the arrival of Neymar in a world record deal from Barcelona.
Draxler faces being pushed even further down the pecking order if PSG are successful in their pursuit of Monaco sensation Kylian Mbappe so it came as no surprise when The Sun reported on Friday that the French giants were willing to sell if their £32m valuation is met.
It seems Draxler is attracting plenty of interest from the Premier League as the Daily Star is citing a report from the Gambling Times that claims Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool have all made contact with PSG to discuss a potential deal.
The newspaper says Arsenal are showing the most serious interest as Arsene Wenger is a long-term fan of Draxler and may see the German star as an alternative to Thomas Lemar having failed to agree a deal with Monaco for his signature.
Liverpool have been installed as many bookmakers favourites to sign Draxler and Jurgen Klopp could be eyeing his compatriot as a potential replacement for Philippe Coutinho should he successfully force a move to Barcelona.
However, I wouldn’t discount Chelsea from the race just just either as Antonio Conte is desperate to further strengthen his squad before the end of the month and Draxler would provide stiff competition for the likes of Eden Hazard and Pedro in attack.
Draxler’s agent Roger Witterman has tried to play down the chances of his client leaving while PSG have denied reports they’ve told the attacker he’s free to find a new club but it’s still difficult to see where he fits in at PSG this season.
They have a wealth of attacking talent already and Mbappe’s possible arrival will limit Draxler’s playing time even further so I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s considering a move, especially with the World Cup coming up next summer.
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming days but I think Draxler would be a sensational signing for Arsenal, Chelsea or Liverpool – particualrly if he is available for just £32m as that would represent excellent value in today’s market.
