Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the final weeks of the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea are plotting a £100m triple swoop…
Chelsea are determined to pull-off a £100m triple swoop for Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Tottenham target Ross Barkley and Leicester midfielder Danny Drinkwater, according to the Telegraph.
Antonio Conte has made no secret of his desire to further strengthen before the transfer window shuts and it looks like the Blues boss has set his sights on three English talents.
Oxlade-Chamberlain’s future at Arsenal is in serious doubt as he’s in the final year of his contract and has so far refused to sign an extension despite the north Londoners best efforts to tie him down to a new deal.
The Telegraph claim the 23-year-old will hold crunch talks with Arsene Wenger today where Chelsea hope he will inform the Arsenal boss that he wants to move to Stamford Bridge after the Blues tabled an improved £35m bid.
Wenger has always maintained that he wants to keep hold of Oxlade-Chamberlain and reiterated his stance this morning but that resolve will be severely tested if the midfielder makes it clear he won’t sign a new deal and wants to join Chelsea.
The England international is able to play at wing-back, central midfield or on the wing so his versatility would be a huge asset to Chelsea if they are able to secure a deal before the end of the month.
According to the Telegraph, Conte is also still looking to sign Ross Barkley despite Tottenham being favourites to sign the Everton midfielder and Chelsea are ready to step-up their interest this weekend.
Everton travel to Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon and the newspaper says Chelsea will take the opportunity to hold talks over a potential £25m deal for the England international.
Tottenham have been chasing Barkley all summer and the report says Mauricio Pochettino is set to formalise his interest with an offer but it looks as though Spurs will now face stiff competition from Chelsea for his signature.
Barkley is also in the final 12 months of his contract and is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury but that won’t stop the likes of Chelsea and Spurs from trying to lure him to London before the window slams shut.
The third English midfielder on Conte’s radar is Danny Drinkwater and the Teelgraph claim Chelsea are still negotiating with Leicester over a deal to sign the £40m-rated star after seeing their opening £15m rejected.
The 27-year-old is understood to be keen on a move to Stamford Bridge to link-up with former team-mate N’Golo Kante so there is optimism a deal will eventually be reached between the two clubs.
If Chelsea are successful in pulling-off a £100m triple swoop for Oxlade-Chamberlain, Barkley and Drinkwater then it will severely strengthen Conte’s midfield and wing-back options but also boost their home-grown quota.
