Liverpool Trying To Hijack Chelsea’s Move For £35m Star As Arsenal Prepare To Sell

Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the final weeks of the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool step-up their pursuit of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain…

Liverpool are trying to hijack Chelsea’s attempts to sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as Arsenal prepare to cash-in on the £35m-rated midfielder before the window closes, according to the Mirror.

Oxlade-Chamberlain’s future at the Emirates has been the subject of much debate the entire summer as he’s now in the final year of his contract and is yet to sign an extension.

Arsenal were initially hopeful of persuading the midfielder to commit his future to the club and Arsene Wenger has publicly stated several times that the 23-year-old would not be sold even if he didn’t sign a new deal.

However, fresh talks last week seem to have changed the landscape as the Mirror claim that Oxlade-Chamberlain turned down a whopping contract worth £180,000-a-week after telling Wenger he wants to leave this summer.

The England international believes a move now is best for his career and development after struggling to progress during his time at the Emirates where he’s failed to hold down a regular place or position.

It now looks like Oxlade-Chamberlain will be sold rather than be allowed to run down the final year of his deal and Chelsea appeared to be in pole position with the Telegraph reporting last week that the Blues were confident of sealing a £35m deal.

Antonio Conte is desperate to further strengthen his squad before the end of the month and Oxlade-Chamberlain would provide competition in the wing-back roles and offer another option in the middle of the park.

However, it looks like Liverpool are now trying to hijack Chelsea’s proposed deal as the Mirror claim that the Reds have a made a huge push to try and lure Oxlade-Chamberlain to Anfield.

The newspaper says that with Arsenal set to cash-in, Jurgen Klopp is hoping to beat Chelsea to his signature and Oxlade-Chamberlain’s team mates believe he’s more likely to end up at Liverpool than move to their London rivals.

It’s set-up to be a fascinating battle and it’s going to be interesting to see where the former Southampton youngster ends-up but I think Oxlade-Chamberlain will be an excellent signing if Chelsea or Liverpool can agree a deal before Thursday night’s deadline.
