£35m International Star Wants To Sign For ‘Big Club’ Like Arsenal Or Liverpool
Jean-Michael Seri has confirmed he wants to join a ‘big European club’ such as Arsenal or Liverpool after seeing his £35m move to Barcelona fall through
Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the final days of the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Jean-Michael Seri is eyeing a move….
Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri has confirmed he wants to join a ‘big European club’ such as Arsenal or Liverpool after seeing his £35m move to Barcelona fall through, according to a report by TeamTalk.
Seri has emerged as one of the best all-round midfielders in French football since joining Nice from Pacos de Ferreira in 2015 and he provided 7 goals and 9 assists to help the club finish third in Ligue 1 last season.
The 26-year-old’s impressive form led to interest from several clubs throughout Europe with Football London reporting last week that Arsenal and Liverpool were battling Barcelona for the midfielder’s signature.
The Catalans looked to be closing-in on a deal after agreeing to meet Seri’s £35m release clause [via TeamTalk] but the move collapsed at the last minute, much to the disappointment of the player.
Seri has now opened up on how his dream move to the Nou Camp fell through and says he’s now focussed on joining a top European club such as Arsenal or Liverpool before the window shuts.
The midfielder is quoted as saying by TeamTalk:
“I feel very bad. I’m not going to lie to you, I’m very affected. My dream of going to Barça has been broken and this, for me, is terrible.
“The [transfer] broke down because the talks between the two clubs went from bad to worse. From what I have been able to find out, my departure from Nice has not occurred for financial reasons.
“I tried to isolate myself from the negotiations because we had a decisive match against Napoli (last Tuesday), but it is impossible to forget that Barça was here to finish my transfer.
“After the game I was meeting for more than an hour with the leaders of FC Barcelona and they did not tell me anything about the progress of my signing.
“I went home happy and the next day I heard the news (that Barcelona had pulled out of the deal). I was stunned to see that the operation had broken down.
“I want to sign [for] big European clubs, like Juventus, PSG, Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool,”
Arsene Wenger is being urged by fans to further strengthen the Arsenal squad following their disastrous start to the new season and Seri would provide stiff competition for the likes of Aaron Ramsey in midfield if he was to move to the Emirates.
Liverpool’s interest may have waned after they confirmed they’ve agreed a deal to sign Naby Keita from RB Leipzig next summer so that could leave the Gunners in the driving seat if Seri was to move to England.
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming days but I think Seri would be an excellent signing for Arsenal, or indeed Liverpool, if either club was able to get a deal agreed before the window shuts on Thursday night.
