Arsenal Open Talks Over Potential Deal To Sign £30m Premier League Star

Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the final days of the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are linked with Jonny Evans….

Arsenal have joined Manchester City in the chase for Jonny Evans after opening talks with West Bromwich Albion over a deal for the £30m-rated defender, according to the Telegraph.

Arsene Wenger is being tipped to be extremely active during the closing stages of the transfer window and a new central defender appears to be on the agenda.

Gabriel joined Valencia earlier this month while Shkodran Mustafi is being linked with a surprise move to Inter Milan so it looks like Wenger has started to identify potential replacements.

Evans has now emerged as a prime target as the Telegraph claim that Arsenal approached West Brom on Monday night to discuss a deal for the Northern Ireland international.

The 29-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to Man City in recent weeks and the newspaper says Pep Guardiola is ready to submit an improved £30m offer after seeing two previous bids knocked back.

That figure is expected to be a lot closer to West Brom’s valuation so it appears Arsenal will have to match City’s £30m bid if they want to stand a chance of signing Evans before the window closes on Thursday night.

The former Manchester United defender moved to the Hawthorns in 2015 and has proven to be one of the most consistent centre-backs in the Premier League over the past two years.

Arsenal were linked with Evans last summer before buying Mustafi so it looks like Wenger has renewed his interest now that the German international appears set for a move to Serie A.

It’s obviously going to be a tough battle with City for his signature but our approach is an intriguing development given the reports today suggesting the Citizens have opened formal talks with Arsenal over Alexis Sanchez.

If Wenger is serious about signing Evans, he may demand City withdraw their interest in the defender as part of any deal involving Sanchez going to the Etihad this summer.

I don’t think there can be any debate that Arsenal need to sign a centre-backs by the end of the month and while Evans isn’t the most glamorous signing, he would offer plenty of Premier League experience and his no-nonsense approach might be just what we need to sort out our back three.
