Liverpool & Chelsea Do-Battle Over Signing Of South American Defender

Liverpool and Chelsea are ready to battle-it-out over the signing of Sebastian Caceres after stepping-up their interest in the Uruguayan defender

The transfer window is now closed but clubs are already thinking ahead to January and next summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool and Chelsea are linked with Sebatstian Caceres…

Liverpool and Chelsea are ready to battle-it-out over the signing of Sebastian Caceres after stepping-up their interest in the Uruguayan defender, according to a report by TeamTalk.

Caceres is now a first team regular at Montevideo club Liverpool FC in Uruguay after progressing through the youth ranks and he’s also captain of his country at under-18 level.

The 18-year-old’s potential has attracted interest from all over Europe with several top clubs keeping a close eye on his progress, including two of the Premier League’s big-hitters.

TeamTalk are citing a report from The Sun that claims Liverpool and Chelsea are vying for Caceres’ signature after sending scouts to watch the highly-rated teenager in action in recent weeks.

The young centre-back has previously spent time training with Dutch giants Feyenoord and he could now be given the chance to test himself in England if Liverpool or Chelsea are able to agree a deal for his services.

Caceres is yet to be capped at full international level with Uruguay but he holds a Spanish passport meaning he wouldn’t need a work permit to secure a move to England.

The youngster has also linked-up with British-based agent, Nick Maytum, which should make any potential move to Liverpool or Chelsea a lot easier to negotiate.

Caceres is highly-regarded in South America but it will be a huge leap in quality if he does come to the Premier League so I don’t see him commanding a first team place at Liverpool or Chelsea any time soon.

Therefore, I expect he’ll either be sent out on loan or play for the youth sides if he does head to Anfield or Stamford Bridge during the January transfer window.
