Manchester United got their Champions League campaign off to the perfect start after beating FC Basel 3-0 at old Trafford this evening.

The Red Devils opened the scoring in the 35th minute as Marouane Fellaini – on for the injured Paul Pogba – headed home from close range following superb work down the right by Ashley Young.

In-form striker Romelu Lukaku then doubled United’s advantage shortly after half-time as he rose to head home at the far post following a lovely cross from Daley Blind.

The three points were secured when Marcus Rashford came off to the bench to fire home United’s third goal in the 84th minute to mark his Champions League debut with a goal.

The 3-0 win means United sit top of Group A on goal difference after CSKA Moscow beat Benfica 2-1 in tonight’s other game.
