By on September 13, 2017

Roberto Firmino missed a crucial penalty as Sevilla came from behind to salvage a 2-2 draw with Liverpool at Anfield this evening.

The Reds got their Champions League campaign off to an awful start as an error from Dejan Lovren led to Wissam Ben Yedder giving Sevilla the lead in just the 5th minute.

However, Liverpool levelled things up midway through the first half as Firmino poked home from close range following some great work from Alberto Moreno down the left.

Liverpool then went ahead in fortunate circumstances when Mohamed Salah’s long-range effort found the back of the net via a huge deflection to make it 2-1 in the 37th minute.

The Reds were gifted the perfect opportunity to make it 3-1 after being awarded a penalty shortly before half time after Sadio Mane was fouled in the area but Firmino saw the resulting spot kick came back off the post.

Liverpool were made to pay as the visitors levelled things up in the second half when Correa fired home in the 72nd minute.  Joe Gomez was sent off in injury time as the hosts pushed for a winner but they had to settle for a 2-2 draw.
