Liverpool have been handed a boost ahead of their trip to Leicester after Emre Can returned to training yesterday but there was still no sign of Joel Matip or Dejan Lovren.

Can missed the midweek League Cup defeat at the King Power after picking up a knock during the frustrating 1-1 draw with Burnley at Anfield last weekend.

Jurgen Klopp admitted at his press conference on Thursday lunchtime that Can was a doubt for the Premier League clash against Leicester tomorrow afternoon.

However, the Reds were handed a boost as Can was passed fit to make his return to the squad after taking part in full training yesterday afternoon at Liverpool’s Melwood training base.

However, Klopp still has defensive concerns to worry about as there was still no sign of centre-backs Lovren or Matip so the duo are running out of time to prove their fitness.

Lovren has missed the last two games with a back injury and Klopp admitted yesterday that the Croatian international is a major doubt for Saturday’s trip to Leicester.

Matip sat out the midweek League Cup loss due to a minor hamstring injury but the Merseysiders remain hopeful he will be able to play tomorrow despite missing training on Thursday.

The Cameroonian international will be assessed by Liverpool’s medical staff today and if Matip is ruled out then Joe Gomez is set to partner Ragnar Klavan in the middle of defence.
