Manchester United edged within touching distance of the knockout stages of the Champions League with a narrow 1-0 victory over Benfica this evening.

Marcus Rashford then tested rookie goalkeeper Svilar straight from a corner and the United forward then caught the teenager out just minutes later as the Benfica stopper misjudged Rashford’s free-kick, catching the ball over the line to gift United the lead in the 64th minute.

Benfica pushed for an equaliser but they saw defender Luisao dismissed in stoppage time as United held on to secure a hard fought 1-0 victory in Portugal.

The win maintain’s United’s 100% record in the Champions League as they move on to nine points and to within touching distance of the knockout stages.
