Chelsea will look to book their place in the quarter finals of the League Cup when they take on Everton at Stamford Bridge this evening.

The Blues bounced back from consecutive defeats to Manchester City and Crystal Palace after coming from behind to secure a thrilling 4-2 victory over Watford at the weekend.

That win saw Chelsea jump back in to the top four of the Premier League table but Antonio Conte’s focus will be on the Carabao Cup as he looks to reach the last eight of the competition tonight.

Chelsea will face an Everton side in total disarray with Ronald Koeman sacked on Monday morning following their humiliating 5-2 defeat to Arsenal at Goodison Park on Sunday.

U23 coach David Unsworth has been placed in temporary charge and the former Everton full-back will be desperate to make a good impression as he hopes to secure the full-time job.

Team news

Chelsea continue to have selection problems in midfield as N’Golo Kante remains out with a hamstring injury while Danny Drinkwater is still working his way back from a calf problem.

Therefore, Conte may have little option other than to stick with Tiemoue Bakayoko alongside Cesc Fabregas in the middle of the park – even if he’d ideally like to rest the over-worked duo.

Victor Moses is also still out with a hamstring injury so Davide Zappacosta could come in on the right while Andreas Christensen, Kenedy and Charly Musonda are also hoping to feature.

Eden Hazard is expected to be rested so Willian could come in to the attack while Michy Batshuayi could get a start up front after coming off the bench to turn the game around at the weekend.

As for Everton, it will be interesting to see what side Unsworth goes for but Morgan Schneiderlin and James McCarthy are back in contention after recovering from injuries.

Idrissa Gana Gueye is suspended following his sending off against Arsenal while Ross Barkley (hamstring), Ramiro Funes Mori, Yannick Bolasie (both knee) and Seamus Coleman (leg) are all long-term absentees.

Likely Line-Ups

Predicted Score

Chelsea 2-0 Everton: Chelsea have thrashed Everton in each of their last three games having scored ten without reply and they are 27 unbeaten at home against the Toffees in all competitions. Unsworth has a huge task to pick this Everton side up as they were woeful at the weekend so I can’t see past a home win.
