Liverpool have been handed an injury boost after Georginio Wijnaldum told Liverpoolfc.com he’s fit and available for selection against Huddersfield this weekend.

Wijnaldum was forced to miss Liverpool’s disappointing 4-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last Sunday after picking up a knee injury during training the day before the game at Wembley.

The knock happened when the Dutch international tried to block a James Milner shot in training at Melwood and his team-mates boot caught Wijnaldum on his knee.

The 26-year-old was initially hopeful it was just a minor bump but he was barely able to walk on Sunday due to the pain so he was subsequently ruled out of the Tottenham game.

However, thankfully it turned out to be nothing serious and the midfielder was able to resume full training on Wednesday so he’s declared himself fit and available for selection against Huddersfield this weekend.

Wijnaldum told the clubs website:

“The knee is good now. I was unlucky that in training before the game I had a kick on it, it was in a duel. Milner tried to shoot and I tried to block but I was a little bit late with my block, he’d already shot the ball and he swung his foot on the inside of my knee.

“At first it didn’t look like it was that bad, but after training I had more pain than during training and the day after, on Sunday before the game, I had a lot of pain. I could barely walk, so it was not possible to play.

“I’m still in a little bit of pain but I can play with it. I had full training yesterday and felt good so probably I can play.

“The manager decides if he’s going to put me in the first XI, but I will be available.”

The news will come as a boost to Liverpool as they were poor against Spurs last weekend and Jurgen Klopp may be thinking of mixing things up when Huddersfield come to Anfield on Saturday.

James Milner played alongside Jordan Henderson and Emre Can in the middle of the park at Wembley but we could see Wijnaldum recalled this weekend with Milner the man most likely to make way.
