Brazilian Star Claims He Almost Joined Liverpool & Chelsea

Brazilian international defender Dani Alves has revealed he came close to joining Liverpool and Chelsea during his illustrious career

The transfer window may be closed but clubs are still working hard ahead of January and next summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Dani Alves claims he almost joined Liverpool and Chelsea

Brazilian international defender Dani Alves has revealed he came close to joining Liverpool and Chelsea during his illustrious career, according to quotes in the Express.

Alves came to Europe in 2002 when he joined Sevilla and developed a reputation as one of the best attacking full-backs in the world during his six years at the Ramon Sanchez Stadium.

The right-back has been linked with a whole host of clubs throughout his career but it seems he almost moved to Anfield as Alves has revealed that an agreement was in place for him to join Liverpool in 2006.

The Express claim a £9m fee had been agreed between the two clubs shortly after Liverpool had won the Champions League under Rafa Benitez but the proposed transfer fell through at the last minute.

Alves went on to claim in the interview that he also came close to joining Chelsea and Real Madrid before eventually moving to Barcelona in the summer of 2008

The 34-year-old is quoted by the Express as telling FourFourTwo:

“I pretty much had an agreement with Liverpool,”

“But for whatever reason it didn’t happen at the last moment and I really don’t know why, as I wasn’t the one conducting the negotiations. I had other people representing me back then.”

“Something similar happened later in my career with Chelsea and Real Madrid. Of course, it all worked out happily for the Cules [Barcelona supporters] in the end, and also for me as I was able to write an amazing story at the Camp Nou instead.”

Obviously in hindsight it was unfortunate that Liverpool and Chelsea missed out on Alves as he’s proven to be one of the best right-backs to have played the game over the past decade.

The South American ended up winning three Champions Leagues and six La Liga titles during his eight years at the Nou Camp while he also helped Juventus win the Serie A title last season.

Alves is currently plying his trade in France with Paris Saint-Germain and will be 35 at the end of the season so sadly it looks like he’s unlikely to ever try his luck here in the Premier League.
