Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson is hoping to make his comeback from a thigh injury against Southampton this weekend.

Henderson was forced to sit out Liverpool’s 4-1 victory over West Ham at the London Stadium before the international break after picking up a thigh injury.

The Reds captain then withdrew from the England squad ahead of their friendlies against Germany and Brazil but he’s used the two week break to work on his fitness.

Henderson was able to resume full training with the rest of the Liverpool squad at Melwood on Wednesday afternoon and the midfielder has confirmed he is feeling ‘good’ following the session.

The Merseysiders welcome Southampton to Anfield on Saturday afternoon and Henderson has handed Jurgen Klopp a boost by confirming he hopes to play a part in the game this weekend.

Henderson told Liverpoolfc.com:

“I feel good. I completed my first session [on Wednesday], so hopefully I can play a part at the weekend.”

There was further positive news for Liverpool yesterday as Philippe Coutinho, Sadio Mane and Adam Lallana were also able to take part in training ahead of the Southampton game.

Coutinho missed the West Ham game through injury, Mane aggravated a hamstring problem while away with Senegal last week and Lallana is yet to feature this season due to a long-term thigh injury.

However, like Henderson, they all trained on Wednesday so should be in contention to take on the Saints as Liverpool look to continue their push for the top four.
