Mohamed Salah scored twice as Liverpool eased to an impressive 3-0 victory over Southampton at Anfield this afternoon.

The Reds started brightly and opened the scoring in the 32nd minute when Salah collected Gini Wijnaldum’s pass before curling home a stunner from outside the area.

It was 2-0 before half time and it was Salah again as the Egyptian international raced on to Philippe Coutinho’s through ball before cooly slotting home to double Liverpool’s lead.

The game was then over midway through the second half as Coutinho fired home the third goal after Fraser Forster had saved following some superb work from Sadio Mane and then Roberto Firmino in the 68th minute.

Liverpool could have added more but they had to settle for just the three goals with the 3-0 win seeing them leapfrog Arsenal in to fifth spot and to within just one point of fourth-placed Tottenham.
