Liverpool Transfer News: Klopp Eyes £53m Attacker + Reds In Talks To Sign Defender

Liverpool are eyeing a move for a £53m attacker while Jurgen Klopp has also reportedly opened talks to sign a defender. See all the news here

The transfer window may be closed but clubs are still working hard ahead of January and next summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today,  Liverpool are linked with Gelson Martins and Ahmed Hegazi….

Reds eye Martins

First up and TeamTalk are carrying a report that claims Liverpool have identified Gelson Martins as a possible replacement for Mohamed Salah in-case the winger gets lured to Spain.

Salah has been a sensation since joining the Reds from Roma in the summer and scored his 10th Premier League goal of the season during the 1-1 draw with Chelsea at the weekend.

However, the Egyptian international is already being linked with a big-money move to La Liga with former Zamalek owner Mamdouh Abbas claiming that Salah’s agent is plotting a move to Real Madrid.

No doubt Liverpool will do all they can to keep hold of Salah for many years to come and they should be confident of doing so as he’s tied to a long-term contract.

However, it seems Jurgen Klopp is still making contingency plans as TeamTalk are citing reports coming out of Portugal from A Bola that claim Liverpool are targetting Martins as a possible replacement.

The Sporting Lisbon attacker has developed in to one of the most exciting players in Portuguese football since breaking in to the Sporting first team two years ago and has 4 goals in his 12 league games so far this season.

TeamTalk say Martins has a £53m buyout clause in his contract so the 22-year-old wouldn’t come cheap if Liverpool do end up making a formal move for his signature.

However, I’d personally be surprised if Salah was to leave Anfield any time soon so Klopp is unlikely to need Martins unless one of his other attackers was to be sold.

Liverpool in talks for Hegazi

Next up and the Mirror are reporting that Liverpool have opened talks over a potential deal to sign West Brom loanee Ahmed Hegazi.

The centre-back moved to the Hawthorns on loan from Al Ahly in the summer and has been hugely impressive in the middle of defence, despite West Brom’s problems this season.

It seems Hegazi’s performances have caught the eye of Klopp as the Mirror are citing a report from ESPN that claims Liverpool have held talks with Al Ahly about signing the defender on a permanent deal.

However, the Reds aren’t the only club interested as the report says Leicester are also keen on the 26-year-old while West Brom have first option to make their loan deal permanent for just £4m.

Liverpool fans have been crying out for the club to sign a top class central defender but I’m not sure Hegazi was the player they had in mind – especially with the club coming close to signing Virgil van Dijk last summer.
