Chelsea & Man Utd Ready To Do-Battle Over Deal To Sign Arsenal Star
Chelsea are ready to battle it out with Manchester United over the signing of Arsenal contract rebel Mesut Ozil either in January or next summer
The transfer window may be closed but clubs are still working hard ahead of January and next summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea join the chance for Mesut Ozil…
Chelsea are ready to battle it out with Manchester United over the signing of Arsenal contract rebel Mesut Ozil either in January or next summer, according to a report by TeamTalk.
Ozil is in the final year of his contract at the Emirates and is expected to leave the club after failing to agree terms over an extension despite holding lengthy talks with the north Londoners.
With Alexis Sanchez also approaching the final six months of his deal at Arsenal some reports have suggested the Gunners may decide to cash-in this winter instead of losing their star men for nothing in June.
However, boss Arsene Wenger insisted earlier this week that Arsenal would hold on to the pair unless something ‘unbelievable’ happens over the coming weeks.
The uncertainty has led to speculation suggesting that Ozil could be set for a move to Old Trafford with TeamTalk saying that Man Utd are keen on signing the playmaker.
United boss Jose Mourinho knows Ozil well from their time together in Spain at Real Madrid and it appears the Portuguese coach is looking for a reunion in Manchester.
Barcelona have also been linked with Ozil but it looks like United will face fresh competition as TeamTalk are citing a report from SportBild that claims Chelsea have joined the race for his signature.
The German publication described Chelsea as a ‘hot candidate’ to sign Ozil as Antonio Conte favours the Arsenal star over Ross Barkley as looks to try and further strengthen his attacking options.
It’s a fascinating situation and I’m sure Arsenal will be desperate not to see Ozil join one of their domestic rivals so it leaves Wenger in a tough predicament.
Does he cash-in and sell Ozil abroad in January to prevent him joining a rival. Or do Arsenal hold on to the attacker and risk seeing the 29-year-old move to United or Chelsea for nothing in June?
Only time will tell but I have a funny feeling we’ll see Ozil link-up with Mourinho and join United on a free transfer next summer.
