Arsenal Team News: Latest On Lacazette & Sanchez Ahead Of Man Utd Clash

Arsenal have doubts over Alexis Sanchez and Alexandre Lacazette ahead of Saturday evening’s huge showdown with Manchester United.

Arsenal will be desperate to cement their position in the top four with a win when they take on Manchester United at the Emirates on Saturday evening.

Unfortunately for the Gunners, it looks like they’ll be without club-record summer signing Alexandre Lacazette after he picked up a groin injury in midweek.

The French international opened the scoring during Wednesday night’s 5-0 thrashing of Huddersfield Town but didn’t appear for the second half after being replaced by Olivier Giroud at the break.

Arsene Wenger confirmed Lacazette picked up a groin issue during the opening forty-five minutes and has ruled the striker out of tomorrow’s clash with United.

The news will come as a major blow to Arsenal as Lacazette has settled well in England following his big-money move from Lyon with Wednesday night’s goal his 7th in 14 appearances this season.

The Gunners also have a concern over Alexis Sanchez as Wenger has revealed that the attacker was forced off midway through the second half against Huddersfield with a hamstring complaint.

Sanchez was withdrawn minutes after scoring Arsenal’s third goal during the rout but Wenger is hopeful the Chilean international will be available for selection tomorrow evening.

The Arsenal boss told the Mirror:

“Lacazette has a groin problem and will be out certainly for Saturday’s game,”

“Sanchez had a little hamstring problem – that’s why I took him off but I think he will be alright.

“Look, we have offensive weapons, you know. We have Danny Welbeck, we have Giroud, we have Jack Wilshere who all came on. They are all offensive players.

“I will see what I do for Saturday but ideally you wanted him (Lacazette) there.”

No doubt Wenger will give Sanchez every opportunity to prove his fitness as it would be a major blow for the Gunners if arguably their best player was ruled out of the United game.

Elsewhere, Alex Iwobi recovered from a dead leg to be in the squad in midweek while Theo Walcott is also back in contention after recovering from illness so the only major absentee is Santi Cazorla.

Arsenal head in to the weekend action sitting fourth in the table but can close to with-in just one point of second-placed United with victory at the Emirates tomorrow.
