Arsenal Blow: Wenger Confirms Key Man Picked Up Injury Injury Against Southampton

Aaron Ramsey is facing a spell on the sidelines after Arsene Wenger confirmed he picked up a hamstring injury during Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Southampton this afternoon.
Ramsey was rested during our Europa League group stage win over BATE Borisov on Thursday night but was recalled to the starting eleven at St Mary’s today.
The 26-year-old has been in fine form in recent weeks but he failed to have the same kind of influence today as we struggled to really get going against the south coast club.
Poor defending allowed Southampton to open the scoring in the 3rd minute but Olivier Giroud came off the bench to score a late equaliser to salvage a point.
Ramsey was seen limping during the closing stages of the game but he had to complete the full ninety minutes as Arsene Wenger had already used all three of his substitutes.
The boss has confirmed after the game that Ramsey has suffered a hamstring injury so it looks as though the midfielder is now facing a spell on the sidelines.
Wenger told Arsenal.com:
“He has a hamstring problem,”
“In the last 10 or 12 minutes if we had him fully fit it would have helped. That’s why it’s sometimes a big gamble when you [make substitutions] early.”
No doubt Ramsey’s injury will be further assessed over the coming days but even a very slight hamstring niggle would rule the midfielder out for around two weeks.
It means the Welsh international is almost certain to miss Wednesday’s trip to West Ham while he’s also in danger of missing upcoming games against Newcastle and Liverpool.
We’ll have to wait and see how serious the injury is but Ramsey’s absence will open the door for Jack Wilshere to force his way back in to Wenger’s first team plans.
