Man Utd Open Talks Over Deal To Sign Brazilian Attacker This Winter
Manchester United have made contact with Chelsea to open talks over a potential deal to sign Willian when the January transfer window opens
The January transfer window is just around the corner meaning clubs are working hard on potential deals so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd are in for Willian….
Manchester United have made contact with Chelsea to open talks over a potential deal to sign Willian when the January transfer window opens, according to the Daily Mail.
Willian joined Chelsea from Shaktar Donetsk in a £27million deal back in 2013 and he’s scored 36 goals in 206 games to help the west Londoners win two Premier League titles over the past four years.
However, the Brazilian international’s future at Stamford Bridge has been called in to question as he’s struggled to hold down a regular first team place since Antonio Conte arrived 18 months ago.
Willian only started 15 Premier League games last season and it led to interest from Jose Mourinho in the summer but Chelsea refused to do business with their domestic rivals.
The 29-year-old is still struggling to cement himself in Conte’s first choice eleven this campaign with Willian starting just 8 times in the league so far and it’s led to fresh speculation suggesting he could look for a move in search of regular football ahead of the World Cup.
It looks like Mourinho has renewed his interest as the Daily Mail claim Man Utd have now made contact with Chelsea to hold preliminary talks over a potential deal to sign Willian in January.
Mourinho obviously knows Willian well as he won the title with the South American during their time together at Stamford Bridge and it looks like he’s hoping for a reunion at Old Trafford.
The Portuguese coach could do with another option in attack as Henrikh Mkhitaryan has fallen out-of-favour and Willian would be a useful addition as he’s able to play anywhere across the attacking positions.
However, it looks like United will need to do something special to get a deal agreed as the Daily Mail claim Chelsea are reluctant to sell Willian mid-season unless an ‘extraordinary offer’ is put on the table.
Conte knows the games are going to come thick and fast during the second half of the season as he looks to compete on four fronts so it would be irresponsible to sell a versatile player like Willian – especially to a rival.
We’ll have to wait and see if anything develops over the coming weeks but I personally don’t think Willian will leave in January so any potential move to United may have to wait until next summer.
