[Video Highlights] Chelsea 1-0 Southampton: Alonso Free-Kick Sinks Saints

Chelsea moved level on points with Manchester United after edging out Southampton 1-0 at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.

The first half was largely a forgettable affair with clear cut chances at a premium as both sides struggled to get going on a bitterly cold afternoon in west London.

However, Chelsea managed to break the deadlock on the stroke of half-time as Marcos Alonso curled home a low free-kick in to the bottom corner – although Fraser Forster may feel he should have done better.

The hosts continued to dominate after the break but couldn’t find the elusive second goal to kill the game off so there was always a chance Southampton to nick a late equaliser.

But Chelsea held on to secure a 1-0 win which sees them move level on points with second-placed Manchester United ahead of their trip to West Brom tomorrow afternoon.
