Arsenal have stolen a march on Manchester United and Tottenham after holding talks over a potential £50m deal to sign Bordeaux attacker Malcom this month, according to reports in Italy via the Metro.
Malcom came through the youth ranks at Corinthians before joining Bordeaux in January 2016 and he’s developed in to one of the most exciting attackers in French football over the past two years.
The Brazilian forward has scored seven goals and provided four assists in his 17 Ligue 1 games so far this season and his potential has attracted interest from the Premier League.
The Metro claim that Manchester United have already expressed their interest in signing Malcom as Jose Mourinho looks to add more creativity to his squad amid reports Henrikh Mkhitaryan will leave after falling out of favour.
Tottenham then joined the chase to sign the talented South American with the newspaper suggesting that Mauricio Pochettino was lining-up an offer for Malcom this month.
However, it looks like Arsenal have now stolen a march on their rivals as the Metro is citing a report from Gianluca Di Marzio that claims the Gunners are in talks with Malcom’s agent trying to agree terms over a move to the Emirates.
The Sky Italia correspondent says Arsenal chiefs are also scheduled to meet with Bordeaux to discuss a potential £50m January deal as Arsene Wenger looks to find a replacement for Alexis Sanchez.
The Chilean international is expected to finally complete a move to Manchester City this winter and it seems Wenger has lined-up Malcom as the man he wants to fill Sanchez’s boost in north London.
The 20-year-old is predominantly a right winger but he’s capable of playing anywhere across the attacking midfield positions so he’d provide Arsenal with plenty of options in the final third if he was to agree the move.
We’ll have to wait and see whether Arsenal’s reported interest will force United or Spurs to step-up their pursuit but for now it looks like the Gunners have moved in to pole position to sign the exciting attacker this month.
