£10m For Another Youth Player. Is It Worth It?

transfer news

If you were to believe the words coming from the British Press, Arsene Wenger is about to spent another £10 million pounds on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The Daily Star wrote that the deal consist of an initial £5million upfront with another £5 million on apperances and performances. Although I have no doubt that Alex is a talented individual and much coveted by many of the Permiership top clubs, I wonder if we need another speedy youngster at all, and at that price.

Over the past year or so, we have plunked down million of pounds on similar type players with Galindo, Silva and Miyachi all yet to make their debut for the Gunners. It really begs the question, is Alex Chamberlain the player we need in the near future? I would have no problem if Arsene buys another talented youth player to bolster the ranks of the defense or midfield, but I believe we have enough attacking talent in our ranks. Inevitably some of the players currently in the Young Gunners will not make it to the first team so why are we getting another one that may prove to be not good enough for the senior team?

This piece of news is unconfirmed but it is no secret that the boss is looking at the Southampton player. It would not be the worst piece of business that he has done over the years but I wouldn’t agree with him on this buy. I would rather keep the dough and be on the lookout for real talents in other departments. Even if he is serious about buying another youth striker, I would rather go for Connor Wickham. At 1.91 meters and still growing, he will add another dimension to the attack, now that we know Bendtner is never gonna be good enough for the senior team.

i think it is because some wont make it is the reason why we should continue to invest in youth . If we didnt we wouldnt have walcott, fabby, jack, ect ect.

I think Wenger is too obssessed with kids. Some of his kids have turned out to be duds. Is there any guarantee that the Saints kid will turn out to be a world beater. Walcott is a good example.

@james wong! walcott is not an example because he is our second top scorer and is now a sure starter in our team! at the age of 21 with a long future ahead. i believe if wenger buys him he knows what he’s doing…one of the best managers for spotting massive potential

You clearly know absolutely nothing about Arsenal if you’re asking this question.

Wenger buys in talented youth players and coaches them to become first team stars of the future. Arsenal cannot compete with Chelsea or City & buy players for top wages at the top end of the market. Take Edin Dzeko for example.

Compare him with Walcott (still only 21) as an example. Total outlay of £10 million but once he starts to produce consistently (which he’s on the verge of doing) he will be a £30 million player & not only that but will have loyalty to both Wenger & the club who have helped & persevered with him.

If you want £30+ million signings I suggest you start writing about another club

Granted not all the signings will fulfill their potential but even the majority of those that don’t will pay for themselves by moving onto other clubs in the (relative) top flight.

Arsenal’s sell on clause for David Bentley netted them about £8million when he was transferred to Spurs.

There are also numerous example of players sold for 1-2million which cover the wage & development costs to Arsenal. And if you speak to most of these kids, they’re almost always highly greateful for the terrific education they’ve received even if they do not crack the first team.

sometimes to get a cristiano ronaldo or Lionel Messi you have to get them young. we missd outon cristiano by a few hundred thousand pounds. Imagine what it wil be when this kid is a world beater and we can’t buy him cos he is too expensive or loyal to his club. Yes its a gamble but I’d have wenger take that gamble for me over any other manager in the league

Compare £5 to Darren Bent £18m or £19m (depending on sources)…

I do agree that AW should either buy whatever we need as CB, put his faith in Bartley/Miquel or just get on with it. If Aston Villa can muster up £18m/£19m + add ons for Bent, surely Arsenal can buy e.g. Cahill for £15m – £20m.
