Liverpool In Talks Over Deal To Sign £70m South American Attacker

Liverpool have opened talks with the agent of James Rodriguez about signing the £70m-rated attacking midfielder at the end of the season

The January transfer window is now open so clubs are working hard trying to strengthen their squads for the second half of the season and put deals in place for the summer. Today, Liverpool are linked with James Rodriguez…

Liverpool have opened talks with the agent of James Rodriguez about signing the £70m-rated attacking midfielder at the end of the season, according to the Express.

Rodriguez made his name at the 2014 World Cup and earned a big money move to Real Madrid but things didn’t work out for him at the Bernabeu and he joined Bayern Munich on loan last summer.

The Colombian international has been rediscovering some of his best form in Germany and scored a superb free-kick during Munich’s victory over Bayer Leverkusen last weekend.

It seems Rodriguez is now attracting interest once again and the Express are citing a report from Don Balon that claims Liverpool are keen to sign the attacker on a permanent deal next summer.

Jurgen Klopp is on the look out for another attacking midfielder following Philippe Coutinho’s move to Barcelona and it seems the Reds boss has lined-up Rodriguez as a potential replacement.

The report says Liverpool have now opened negotiations with the 26-year-old’s agent about a possible move to Anfield but they have one major stumbling block to overcome.

Rodriguez is currently only 6 months in to a two-year loan deal at Munich so Liverpool would need the Bundesliga giants to cancel that agreement in the summer before a move could be agreed with Madrid.

It remains to be seen whether Bayern would agree to terminate the loan deal but it seems Liverpool have started discussions early to give the clubs time to find an agreement.

Even if Munich do terminate the loan, Liverpool also need to come to an agreement with Madrid and the newspaper says the La Liga giants want up to £70m for Rodriguez’s signature.

Obviously Liverpool have the funds available after cashing-in on Coutinho but we’ll have to wait and see if the Merseysiders will be prepared to meet Madrid’s valuation of the South American.

However, I think Rodriguez would be a fine addition to Liverpool’s squad if they could get a deal agreed as he’s a top class player and is capable of playing anywhere across the attacking midfield positions.
