Chelsea Lodge Enquiry To Sign Serie A Striker As Conte Looks To Boost Firepower

Chelsea have made an enquiry to AS Roma about the possibility of signing Edin Dzeko this month as Antonio Conte looks to add a new striker to his ranks

The January transfer window is in full swing so clubs are working hard trying to strengthen their squads for the second half of the season and put deals in place for the summer. Today, Chelsea are linked with Edin Dzeko…

Chelsea have made an enquiry to AS Roma about the possibility of signing Edin Dzeko this month as Antonio Conte looks to add a new striker to his ranks, according to a report in the Express.

The Blues boss is desperate to bring in more firepower during the January transfer window to help ease the burden on miss-firing striker Alvaro Morata during the second half of the campaign.

The Spanish striker enjoyed an excellent start to life in West London following his summer move from Real Madrid but Morata has scored just once in his last ten appearances in all competitions.

Michy Batshuayi was given a rare chance to impress during last night’s FA Cup clash with Norwich City and scored during the 1-1 draw before Chelsea eventually booked their place in the fourth round with a penalty shoot out win.

However, the Belgian international has struggled to establish himself under Conte this season and Batshuayi has recently been linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund.

Reports earlier this week suggested Chelsea were in talks about signing Andy Carroll on loan but West Ham are reportedly only looking to sell on a permanent basis if £20m is put on the table.

That’s left Conte looking at other targets and the Express are citing a report coming from Premium Sport that claims Chelsea have now lodged an enquiry about signing Dzeko from Roma.

The Italian outlet says no formal offer has been put on the table but Chelsea may struggle to agree terms with Roma as the Serie A club are believed to be reluctant to do business this month.

Obviously that stance could change if Chelsea come back with a tempting offer and Dzeko would be an excellent addition to the squad if the Blues could somehow lure him back to the Premier League.

The Bosnian international has previous experience in England having played for Man City for five years before moving to Roma and he’s proven to be a real hit in Italy having scored 61 goals in his 116 appearances.
