Man Utd Lead Liverpool & Chelsea In Race To Sign £35m Ligue 1 Star
Manchester United are leading Liverpool and Chelsea in the race to sign £35m Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri at the end of the season
The January transfer window is in full swing so clubs are working hard trying to strengthen their squads for the second half of the season and put deals in place for the summer. Today, the race for Jean-Michael Seri hots up….
Manchester United are leading Liverpool and Chelsea in the race to sign £35m Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri at the end of the season, according to the Mirror.
Seri has emerged as one of the best all-round midfielders in French football since joining Nice from Pacos de Ferreira in 2015 and he provided 7 goals and 9 assists to help the club finish third in Ligue 1 last season.
The 26-year-old was linked with a number of clubs during the summer transfer window but saw a proposed switch to Barcelona fall through before Paris Saint-Germain also ended their pursuit due to Financial Fair Play after signing Neymar.
The midfielder has continued to impress in France this season but his future at Nice is in serious doubt as Seri has just 18 months left to run on his contract and has so far refused to sign an extension.
The Mirror claim that sources close to the player say he wants to move to the Premier League with Man Utd, Liverpool and Chelsea all battling it out for his signature this summer.
The Ivory Coast international has a very affordable £35m release clause written in to his contract and the English trio easily have the financial firepower to meet that valuation.
Liverpool are in the market for another midfielder with Emre Can’s future in serious doubt while Chelsea are keen to further strengthen their squad amid doubts over Tiemoue Bakayoko.
Seri is seemingly on their radar, however, the Mirror claim that United are currently leading rivals Liverpool and Chelsea the race to sign the talented box-to-box midfielder.
Jose Mourinho is set to dip in to the transfer market with Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini out of contract in June and Seri would be a superb signing if the Red Devils could lure him to Old Trafford.
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming months as Seri’s future is far from resolved but I think it will be a major coup if any of the English trio are able to win the race for his signature.
