Arsenal To Increase Aubameyang Offer After Dortmund Confirm £44m Bid Was Rejected

Arsenal are ready to go back in with an improved offer after Borussia Dortmund rejected our opening £44m bid for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

The January transfer window is in full swing so clubs are working hard trying to strengthen their squads for the second half of the season and put deals in place for the summer. Today, Arsenal are set to increase their offer for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang…

Arsenal are ready to go back in with an improved offer after Borussia Dortmund rejected our opening £44m bid for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to the Telegraph.

Aubameyang has been left out of Dortmund’s last two match-day squads after having his head turned by interest from Arsenal and the striker is reportedly desperate to seal a move to north London.

Sky Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claimed on Thursday night that Aubameyang had agreed personal terms with Arsenal over a three-and-a-half-year contract worth around £8.8m per season.

All that was left was for us to agree a fee with Dortmund and it seems we’ve now made our move as the Telegraph claim that we’ve seen an opening offer worth around £45m knocked back by the Bundesliga outfit.

The newspaper says Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke has confirmed the offer but the German giants will only sell their top scorer if we put £55m on the table.

No quotes are included in the report but I have found some quotes from Watzke in the Mirror where he says:

“I can confirm that there has been a first request from Arsenal for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

“We are not commenting on the sums that have been called from England since noon today.”

Wenger was coy when quizzed about Watzke’s claims after Arsenal’s 4-1 win over Crystal Palace today as he refused to comment after being criticised by the Dortmund chiefs last week for speaking about their player.

However, the Telegraph claim that Arsenal are already lining-up an improved offer for the 28-year-old while reports in Germany suggest we could use Olivier Giroud as a makeweight to reduce the financial outlay.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but it seems Arsenal are now making a serious move to sign Aubameyang and I think he’d be a sensational addition to the squad if we could get a deal agreed.

The Gabon international has scored 21 goals this season and netted 40 times last year so he’s one of the most prolific hitmen in Europe and we could certainly do with another threat in front of goal with Sanchez heading to Man Utd.
