Man Utd Lead Liverpool & Chelsea In Race To Sign £35m International Midfielder

By on January 24, 2018

The January transfer window is in full swing so clubs are working hard trying to strengthen their squads for the second half of the season and put deals in place for the summer. Today, the latest on Jean-Michael Seri…

Manchester United are leading Liverpool and Chelsea in the race to sign £35m-rated Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri, according to The Sun.

Seri has emerged as one of the best all-round midfielders in French football since joining Nice from Pacos de Ferreira in 2015 and he provided 7 goals and 9 assists to help the club finish third in Ligue 1 last season.

The 26-year-old was linked with a number of clubs during the summer transfer window but a move failed to materialise and the midfielder has continued to impress in France this season.

However, his future at Nice is in serious doubt as Seri has just 18 months left to run on his contract and has so far refused to sign an extension despite the French clubs best efforts to tie him down to a new deal.

The Ivory Coast international’s situation has alerted several top Premier League clubs with The Sun claiming that United are leading Chelsea and Liverpool in the race to sign Seri either this month or in the summer.

The midfielder has a very affordable £35m release clause written in to his contract, according to the Mirror, and the English trio easily have the financial firepower to meet that valuation.

Jose Mourinho is in the market for a new central midfielder as Michael Carrick will retire this summer while Marouane Fellaini is out of contract in June so Seri could be viewed as the ideal replacement.

However, Liverpool are also on the look-out for another midfielder amid on-going doubts over the future of Emre Can while Chelsea are also seemingly in the market for midfield reinforcements with Seri reportedly on their radar.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks but I think it will be a major coup if any of the English trio are able to win the race for Seri’s signature as I believe he’d be a superb purchase at £35m.
