Transfer News: Man Utd Make Move To Sign La Liga Midfielder | Liverpool Eye PL Striker

Transfer rumours – Manchester United are linked with a move for a La Liga midfielder while Liverpool are linked with a Premier League striker

The January transfer window is in full swing so clubs are working hard trying to strengthen their squads for the second half of the season and put deals in place for the summer. Today, Man Utd are linked with Mateo Kovacic while Liverpool eye Salomon Rondon….

United linked with Kovacic

First up and the Mirror are carrying a report claiming that Manchester United have made a move to try and sign Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic this month.

Jose Mourinho is in the market for midfield reinforcements as Marouane Fellaini is out of contract in June and is yet to sign an extension while Michael Carrick is set to retire at the end of the season.

United have been linked with a whole host of names in recent weeks but it seems Mourinho is now ready to raid his former club after identifiying Kovacic as a prime target.

The Mirror are citing a report from Le10 Sport that claims United have launched a move to try and land the Croatian international by offering him a fresh start here in England.

Kovacic has struggled to hold down a regular first team place at the Bernabeu since joining Madrid from Inter Milan in 2015 with the midfielder starting just 1 La Liga game so far this season.

With the likes of Casemiro, Luka Modric and Toni Kroos ahead of him in the pecking order, the 23-year-old could be open to a move in order to secure regular football ahead of the World Cup.

The report says Mourinho is ready to offer Kovacic a starring role at Old Trafford but it remains to be seen whether they’ll be able to strike a deal with Madrid for his signature.

Liverpool eye Rondon

Next up and talkSPORT are reporting that Liverpool are locked in a battle with Everton to sign West Bromwich Albion striker Salomon Rondon this month.

The 28-year-old has enjoyed mixed success since moving to the Premier League from Zenit Saint Petersburg in 2015 with 20 goals in his 94 games so far.

That average record doesn’t appear to have deterred Jurgen Klopp as the report says Liverpool are eyeing a shock swoop for the striker during the closing stages of the window.

The Reds are in the market for another striker as Daniel Sturridge is expected to secure a move away from Anfield before the end of the month and Rondon would offer back-up to Roberto Firmino.

However, Liverpool aren’t the only club in the running as talkSPORT say Everton are also tracking the Baggies hitman so the Mersey rivals could lock horns over the coming days.

Rondon is reportedly settled in the Midlands but the Venezuelan international has just 18 months left to run on his contract at the Hawthorns so West Brom could decide to cash-in now before his value drops any further.
