The January transfer window is in full swing so clubs are working hard trying to strengthen their squads for the second half of the season and put deals in place for the summer. Today, Karim Benzema is linked with Arsenal…

Real Madrid are willing to sell Karim Benzema to Arsenal for £52m after the French hitman agreed to join Arsene Wenger in north London, according reports in Spain via the Mirror.

The boss is looking to bring in another forward after losing Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott this month and we’ve so far been frustrated in our attempts to sign Borussia Dortmund hitman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

It looks like Wenger is lining-up an alternative in-case we can’t agree a deal to land the Gabon international and he’s reportedly renewed his interest in long-term target Benzema.

The Mirror are citing reports coming out of Spain that claim the 30-year-old has agreed to join Wenger at the Emirates if we can strike a deal with Madrid this month.

The newspaper says the Spanish giants are ready to cash-in if £52.3m is put on the table but so far Arsenal have only offered around £35m so we’re still a long way off meeting their valuation.

Benzema has been one of the most prolific strikers in Europe since joining Madrid from Lyon back in 2009 as he’s provided 187 goals and 106 assists to help the club win three Champions League’s, two La Liga’s and a host of other domestic cups.

However, he’s struggled this season as the French international has scored just 2 La Liga goals so far and it’s led to speculation that Madrid are ready to overhaul their attack with Benzema one of the first out the door.

Wenger has been a long-term admirer of the striker so it comes as no surprise to hear we’ve renewed our interest but I think we’ll have to pay a lot more than £35m to sign him this month.

Despite his troubles in front of goal this season, Benzema is still a world class forward who would be an excellent addition to the squad so we’ll have to offer a lot closer to Madrid’s £52m asking price if we’re to get a deal agreed.
