Arsenal Transfer Boost: Boss Confirms Plan To Do Deal For £25m Star

Arsenal have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Jonny Evans as Alan Pardew has confirmed West Brom are ready to cash-in on the defender this month

The January transfer window is in full swing so clubs are working hard trying to strengthen their squads for the second half of the season and put deals in place for the summer. Today, Alan Pardew confirms Jonny Evans could leave…

Arsenal have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Jonny Evans as Alan Pardew has confirmed West Brom are ready to cash-in on the defender this month, according to the Mirror.

Arsene Wenger is in the market for another centre-back as Laurent Koscielny has been plagued by an Achilles injury for 18 months while Per Mertesacker is due to retire at the end of the season.

The boss has renewed his interest in Evans this month after failing to land the Norther Ireland international in the summer and we’re in pole position to sign him after Manchester City turned their attention to Aymeric Laporte.

The Daily Star reported yesterday that Arsenal had formalised their interest in Evans after submitting an opening offer worth £10m plus Mathieu Debuchy was included to sweeten the deal.

However, that offer has fallen short of West Brom’s valuation as the Mirror claim the Baggies are holding out for nearer £25m so Arsenal will need to dig a lot deeper if we want to get a deal agreed.

The good news is Pardew has now confirmed he’s ready to cash-in on his captain as long as they receive a suitable offer and West Brom have already snapped-up Ali Gabr as a replacement for Evans.

Pardew is quoted as saying by the Mirror today:

“Jonny is still at the football club, we still haven’t had a bid put to us that’s anywhere near acceptable. Therefore he still remains a West Brom player.

“The only thing I will confirm is what you already know, is that Jonny Evans is a target for other clubs. We might sell if the price is right. That’s the deal.”

Obviously West Brom are going to want top dollar for their skipper but Arsenal know Evans will be available at a bargain rate in the summer if the Midlanders are relegated as a £3m buyout clause will be activated if they drop to the Championship.

It looks like Wenger is trying to drive a hard bargain but West Brom are clearly ready to cash-in if we table a decent offer so I think a deal is there to be done before the window closes.

Although Evans has started in West Brom’s FA Cup clash at Liverpool tonight so let’s hope the 30-year-old doesn’t pick up an injury!
