Transfer News: £40m South American Star Confirms Desire To Join Man Utd
Fabinho has confirmed he is looking to leave Monaco and the £40m-rated midfielder is now eyeing a move to Manchester United
The January transfer window is coming to a close so clubs are working hard trying to strengthen their squads for the second half of the season and put deals in place for the summer. Today, Fabinho eyes a move to Man Utd…
Fabinho has confirmed he is looking to leave Monaco and the £40m-rated midfielder is now eyeing a move to Manchester United, according to a report by TeamTalk.
The Brazilian international made his name as a right-back but excelled after being converted in to a holding midfielder and he played a key role in helping Monaco win the Ligue 1 title last season.
The 24-year-old was strongly linked with a move to United during the summer but Monaco refused to sell after letting a number of other key players leave and Jose Mourinho eventually signed Nemanja Matic.
However, Fabinho has now reignited speculation over a switch to Old Trafford after confirming he feels the time is right to leave Monaco to join a more ambitious club.
TeamTalk are citing quotes from Brazilian outlet Lance where Fabinho also suggests he would jump at the change of joining a ‘prestigious’ club like Manchester United.
Fabinho is quoted as saying:
“I would be happy to move to a more prestigious club like Man Utd with greater ambitions. My adventure at Monaco has been wonderful. I won a league title, but now I feel my time here is coming to an end.
“I am well aware of the fact the club’s objective is to finish in second place and qualify for the UEFA Champions League. Of course, they look to do this by giving youngsters the chance to develop rather than spend big money on great players.”
These quotes have been interpreted as a ‘come and get me plea’ by Fabinho and it’s easy to see why as he’s clearly ready to leave Monaco and is eyeing a move to Old Trafford.
Mourinho is in the market for midfield reinforcements as Michael Carrick will retire in June while Marouane Fellaini is out-of-contract at the end of the season and is showing no sign of signing an extension.
The report suggests Fabinho is still a target for Mourinho and Monaco value him at around £45m – which shouldn’t be a problem for a club with the financial resources of United.

However, with the winter window shutting on Wednesday night, time is running out to get a deal done this month so I think any potential transfer will probably have to wait until the summer.
