The January transfer window in now closed so it’s time to look at those deals that didn’t get over the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Malcom confirms he wants to move to the Premier League….
Bordeaux’s £45m-rated attacker Malcom has admitted he dreams of moving to the Premier League amid strong interest from Arsenal and Tottenham, according to the Daily Mail.
Malcom has emerged as one of the top young talents in Europe since joining Bordeaux two years ago and he’s provided eight goals and six assists in his 26 appearances in all competitions so far this season.
The Brazilian U23 international has caught the attention of clubs here in the Premier League as Arsenal and Tottenham were both strongly linked with the winger throughout the January window.
At one stage, the Guardian reported that a move to Arsenal was close after the Gunners had reportedly met with the 20-year-old’s agent in France to discuss personal terms.
However, Tottenham then emerged as front-runners to sign Malcom as reports from Brazilian outlet UOL eSport claimed that Spurs were close to finalising a deal after also holding talks with the players agent.
A move failed to materialise in the end but the north London giants are being tipped to renew their interest in the summer and it seems Malcom would jump at the chance to move to England.
The youngster has been quoted by the Daily Mail as saying that it is his ‘dream’ to play in the Premier League and he’s made it clear to Bordeaux that he wants to fulfill that dream in the summer.
When asked about the interest from England, Malcom is quoted by the newspaper as saying:
‘It’s my dream to progress in my career. I spoke to the president, he told me that he knew it was my dream [to play in the Premier League], but that he needed me.
‘I told him he could count on me until the end of the season, I will do everything to help Bordeaux finish in the top six in Ligue 1.’
Arsene Wenger signed Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to replace Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud last month but the Arsenal boss is yet to sign a replacement for Theo Walcott so the Gunners could go back in for Malcom this summer.
Tottenham landed Lucas Moura on deadline day last week but Mauricio Pochettino is still expected to further strengthen his attacking options at the end of the season and Malcom remains on his radar.
We’ll have to wait and see how things progress over the coming months but the Daily Mail claim Bordeaux value Malcom at around £45m so the north London duo will have to dig deep if they want to sign the young Brazilian.
