French Star Issues Demands After Man Utd Offer £100k-A-Week Deal Ahead Of £54m Move

By on February 15, 2018

The January transfer window in now closed so it’s time to look at those deals that didn’t get over the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, the latest on Man Utd’s pursuit of Samuel Umtiti….

Samuel Umtiti will demand Barcelona match the £100,000-a-week after tax offer being put forward by Manchester United if the defender was to make a £54m move to Old Trafford, according to a report in the Mirror.

Umtiti has developed in to one of the most highly-rated centre-backs in European football since joining Barca from Lyon in 2016 with the Frenchman now an established part of Ernesto Valverde’s team.

The 24-year-old’s impressive form has attracted interest from Manchester United with the Mirror claiming that Jose Mourinho has identified Umtiti as a key summer transfer target.

Mourinho has been tipped to revamp his back-line with Chris Smalling and Phil Jones set to be axed and it seems the United boss wants to build his new-look defence around Umtiti next season.

The Mirror claim that United are prepared to meet his £54m release clause and lure Umtiti to Old Trafford with the promise of a lucrative contract worth £100,000-a-week after tax.

It seems the player feels that’s a tempting offer as the newspaper is citing a report from Spanish outlet Sport that suggests Umtiti will demand Barcelona match what’s being offered by United if they want him to stay at the Nou Camp beyond the summer.

The centre-backs current deal runs until 2021 but the fact he has a reasonable release clause in the deal leaves Barca vulnerable and there is nothing they could do to prevent him leaving if United match the release fee.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming months but Umtiti would be an excellent addition if United could manage to lure him away from the Spanish giants this summer.
