Arsenal Plotting Audacious £53m Swoop For La Liga Attacker

By on February 16, 2018

The January transfer window in now closed so it’s time to look at those deals that didn’t get over the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Arsenal are linked with a shock swoop for Ousmane Dembele…

Arsenal are plotting an audacious raid on Barcelona with Arsene Wenger lining-up a cheeky £53m move to sign Ousmane Dembele this summer, according to Calciomercato.

The boss rejuvenated his attack during the January window with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan coming in to replace Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez.

However, we failed to sign a replacement for Theo Walcott following his move to Everton and it’s left us with limited options on the wing so Wenger is expected to bring in a wide attacker this summer.

It seems the Frenchman has an audacious target in mind as Calciomercato claims that Arsenal are lining-up a swoop on Barcelona for winger Ousmane Dembele at the end of the season.

The 20-year-old made his name at Borussia Dortmund before joining Barca in a £93m move last summer but his time in Spain hasn’t gone according to plan as Dembele has managed just 170 minutes of La Liga football due to a serious thigh injury.

It appears Wenger is hoping to reunite the French international with former team-mate Aubameyang at the Emirates next season and Calciomercato says our club record signing is also keen for Dembele to join him in north London.

However, the Italian outlet says Arsenal are hoping to persuade Barca to sell for just £53m – which seems highly unlikely given they spent almost twice that to sign him just 8 months ago.

I assume the club are hoping to take advantage of Barcelona’s situation as they recently confirmed they would have limited funds this summer following the £142m purchase of Philippe Coutinho.

Cashing-in on Dembele would provide them with funds to strengthen other areas of the squad but I still think we’ll need to pay more than £53m to tempt them in to selling Dembele this summer.
