Arsenal & Man Utd In Battle To Sign £44m German International

Arsenal and Manchester United are eyeing moves to sign Borussia Dortmund attacker Marco Reus in a potential £44m deal this summer, according to reports

The January transfer window in now closed so it’s time to look at those deals that didn’t get over the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Arsenal and Man Utd are linked with Marco Reus…

Arsenal and Manchester United are eyeing moves to sign Borussia Dortmund attacker Marco Reus in a potential £44m deal this summer, according to a report by TeamTalk.

Reus has established himself as one of the most talented attackers in European football since joining Dortmund from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2012.

The 28-year-old’s career has been blighted by a number of serious injuries but he’s still managed to score 89 goals and provide a further 61 assists in his 191 appearances during his time at the Westfalonstadion.

The German international has recently returned from his latest lengthy lay-off and is hoping to finish the season strongly in order to secure his place in Joachim Low’s squad for this summers World Cup.

However, Reus’s long-term future at Dortmund is in doubt as his contract is due to expire in less than 18 months and he’s suggested he’d like to try a new challenge as he eyes his last big contract.

Reus is quoted by TeamTalk as saying recently:

“There are four or five international clubs who interest me. On May 31 next year, I will turn 30. That would be my last big contract and a final opportunity to try something different.

“I have to be honest and fair and say I don’t know where I’ll end up. At the moment, I’m very happy in Dortmund and not thinking about what happens after 2019. But, of course, the time will come and then I will sit down and calmly make a decision.”

This has seemingly alerted clubs here in the Premier League as TeamTalk claim Arsenal and Manchester United are both eyeing moves for Reus at the end of the season.

The attacker has suggested he’s willing to run down his contract and leave on a free transfer in 2019 but Dortmund may decide to cash-in this summer rather than lose him for nothing and TeamTalk say the Bundesliga outfit will consider offers in the region of £44m.

If Reus was to join Arsenal he’d link-up with former team mates Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but United will provide stiff competition as Jose Mourinho tries to build a squad capable of competing with Man City.

However, Arsenal and United will face a battle with AC Milan as TeamTalk are citing reports from Calciomercato that claim the San Siro giants are keen on luring Rues to Italy.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming months but I think Reus would be a superb signing for Arsenal or United if they could win the race for his signature and keep him fit.
