The January transfer window in closed so it’s time to look at those deals that didn’t get over the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Liverpool are linked with Lewis Cook…

Liverpool are ready to launch a £20m swoop for Bournemouth midfielder Lewis Cook as Jurgen Klopp plans for life without Emre Can, according to a report by TeamTalk.

Can is out-of-contract in June and is free to hold talks with foreign clubs about a free transfer move at the end of the season amid strong links with Serie A champions Juventus.

Liverpool are still hoping to persuade the 24-year-old to sign a new deal but Klopp has to make contingency plans and several players have been touted in the media as possible replacements for Can.

The latest name to be put forward is Lewis Cook with TeamTalk reporting that Liverpool have now identified the Bournemouth midfielder as a summer transfer target.

Cook has been in superb form since moving to the Cherries from Leeds United in 2016 and he’s become a regular in Eddie Howe’s starting eleven this season having made 23 appearances so far.

The 21-year-old helped the England U20’s win the World Cup last summer and was called up to Gareth Southgate’s senior squad back in November so he looks to be a real star for the future.

He could now earn a big-money move as TeamTalk say that Liverpool are ready to test Bournemouth’s resolve with a £20m bid after Klopp sent his scouts to watch Cook on a number of occasions this season.

It remains to be seen how the south coast club will respond if Liverpool do put that sort of money on the table but they could be tempted to cash-in and use the money to strengthen other areas of the squad.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming months but Cook would be an exciting addition to the Liverpool squad if Klopp was able to lure him to Anfield this summer.
