Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri has agreed to join Manchester United in a £35m deal this summer despite interest from Arsenal and Liverpool
The January transfer window in closed so it’s time to look at those deals that didn’t get over the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Jean-Michael Seri is set to join Man Utd….
Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri has agreed to join Manchester United in a £35m deal this summer despite interest from Arsenal and Liverpool, according to a report by TeamTalk.
Seri has been one of the best box-to-box midfielders in Ligue 1 since joining Nice from Pacos de Ferreira in 2015 and he’s also a regular with the Ivory Coast national team.
The 26-year-old has attracted interest from several top European clubs in recent transfer windows and he reportedly saw a proposed move to Barcelona fall through last summer.
Seri has also been strongly linked with clubs here in the Premier League with the Mirror reporting that Arsenal and Liverpool have joined Manchester United in the race to sign the midfielder.
Arsene Wenger needs to revamp his midfield as Granit Xhaka has been a huge disappointment while Jack Wilshere’s future is in doubt as his contract is due to expire in June and it looked like the Gunners are keen on Seri.
Liverpool are also in the market for midfield reinforcements as Emre Can’s contract is up at the end of the season and Seri had seemingly been earmarked by Jurgen Klopp as a possible replacement.
However, it looks like Arsenal and Liverpool are set to miss out as TeamTalk are citing a report from Mundo Deportivo that claims Seri has already agreed to join Man Utd this summer.
The Spanish outlet says the Red Devils will meet his £35m release clause and Seri has told friends he’s excited about joining United after a gentleman’s agreement was reached for him to move to Old Trafford.
Jose Mourinho is expected to sign at least one central midfielder this summer as Michael Carrick is set to retire while Marouane Fellaini is out-of-contract in June and is no closer to signing an extension.
It looks as though United have got their hands on Seri and I think he’ll prove to be a superb signing for the Manchester giants, especially for £35m as that’s a bargain in today’s market.
