Wenger Wants £22m German Star To Replace Out-Of-Form Arsenal Ace
Arsenal have expressed their interest in signing £22m Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno as we look to replace Petr Cech this summer
The transfer window is closed but managers are working hard on their plans for the summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are linked with Bernd Leno….
Arsenal have expressed their interest in signing £22m Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno as we look to replace Petr Cech this summer, according to reports in Germany via the Metro.
Cech’s form has been steadily declining this season and he was forced to publicly apologise for his two mistakes during our 2-1 defeat at Brighton on Sunday afternoon.
The 35-year-old’s best years are behind him meaning Arsenal desperately need so sign a new number one this summer and it seems we’re already lining-up potential targets.
The Metro are citing a report from Bild that claims Arsenal have identified Leno as a potential replacement for Cech and have already expressed their interest to Bayer Leverkusen.
Leno is still under contract with the Bundesliga outfit until 2020 but the report says he has a release clause which allows him to leave for £22m – which seems like a reasonable price in today’s market.
The 26-year-old has developed in to one of the best goalkeepers in German football since joining Leverkusen in 2011 and he’s been capped 6 times for the national team.
Leno has been consistently brilliant for his club in recent years and has missed just 3 games in the last seven seasons so I think he’d be an excellent addition to the squad if we could lure him to the Emirates.

However, we won’t be the only club in the running for his signature so no doubt we’ll have to fend off serious competition if we want to sign the German international stopper this summer.
