The transfer window is closed but managers are working hard on their plans for the summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Kalidou Koulibaly is linked with a move to England…
Manchester United could be ready to battle it out with Arsenal and Chelsea over the signing of Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly this summer, according to the Mirror.
Koulibaly has been one of the best defenders in Italian football since joining Napoli from Genk in 2014 with his dominant displays at the back helping them go toe-to-toe with Juventus for the title this season.
The 26-year-old has been constantly linked with a move to the Premier League in recent transfer windows but until now he’s chosen to stay in Naples after signing a new long-term contract last summer.
However, the Mirror claim that Koulibaly is finally ready for a fresh start and is set for a move to England at the end of the season with long-term suitors Arsenal and Chelsea expected to be in the running for his signature.
Arsenal are set for a summer overhaul following a disastrous campaign and the north Londoners desperately need a powerful defender this summer to help shore-up their leaky defence and 6ft 5in Koulibaly could be just the answer.
Chelsea are also expected to be in the market for a centre-back during the summer window as David Luiz’s future at Stamford Bridge is in serious doubt and Koulibaly is also seemingly on their radar.
However, the London duo could face stiff competition from Man Utd as the Mirror suggests that the Red Devils may join the race to sign Koulibaly as he was discovered by scout Roland Janssen.
Janssen plucked Koulibaly from the French second tier during his time at Genk before moving to Old Trafford and with Jose Mourinho expected to sign at least one centre-back this summer, the report suggests United could turn to the Senegal international.
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming months but Koulibaly is a top class defender so I think he’d be an excellent signing for Arsenal, Chelsea or United if any of those clubs could get a deal agreed for his signature.
