Chief Confirms £70m-Rated Midfielder Could Join Man Utd This Summer
Shakhtar Donetsk have confirmed midfielder Fred could yet sign for Man Utd after denying a deal has already been agreed with Man City
The transfer window is closed but managers are working hard on their plans for the summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd are linked with Fred….
Shakhtar Donetsk have confirmed midfielder Fred could yet sign for Man Utd after denying a deal has already been agreed with Man City, according to the Mirror.
Fred has been a superb signing for Shakhtar since joining the club from Internacional in 2013 while he’s also broken in to the Brazilian national team having been capped by his country 6 times so far.
The 25-year-old’s impressive form has led to interest from the Premier League as United and City have both been strongly linked with the midfielder in recent months.
The Mirror claim City were quoted £70m after holding formal talks with Shakhtar in January and speculation suggested Fred was expected to complete a move to the Etihad at the end of the season.
However, it looks like United have been given fresh hope of signing the midfielder as Shakhtar’s chief executive Sergei Palkin has confirmed that no deal is in place with City just yet.
The Ukrainian club’s supremo went on to say that Fred is expected to leave in June and suggested the Brazilian star could still end up at Old Trafford.
Palkin is quoted as saying by the Mirror:
“Fred isn’t already at Manchester City, but he will surely leave in June — if not to City, then Manchester United.
“He’s ready for the next stage, because as well as being good, he’s also very professional. If he asked us to stay another year, we’d let him.”
In a further boost, Fred himself has hinted that he hasn’t made up his mind over which Premier League club to join but named United as one of the teams he’d like to play for next season.
Fred is quoted as saying by the Mirror:
“City are a great team, I would be happy to play there. Or at Manchester United as well… at Chelsea, Arsenal… clubs of great tradition in Europe and England.
“It is the best league in the world, I have no doubt, and I believe that my football would evolve. I’m 25. There’s a lot to grow and learn, play and observe great players of these clubs. That would help a lot — learn by watching them.
“I’m sure that I will evolve in the future and that my agents will help me a lot to make the best decision possible, so that in the next window I am at a Premier League club.”
Jose Mourinho is in the market for at least one central midfielder as Michael Carrick is set to retire while Marouane Fellaini is out of contract in June and is yet to sign an extension.
