[PREVIEW & PREDICTED SCORE] Man United v Birmingham

MANCHESTER UNITED

United welcome Birmingham to Old Trafford this weekend as they look to kick on after the scoreless draw at White Hart Lane on Sunday. Not that this was poor result but we are somewhat reliant on our home form at the moment. We played some tidy stuff against Spurs but Fergie will be expected a lot more chances to be creating come 3 o’clock today.

Rafael will serve his one game ban after his (harsh) red card on Sunday. John O’Shea and Wes Brown are candidates to replace the Brazilian at right back. Otherwise, there are few injuries to report, with the possibility of Paul Scholes returning also. It would be great to see the Ginga Ninja back as our midfield has looked a little pedestrian to me recently. Creatively, we are missing something here still.

This fixture hasn’t produced many goals in recent years and the return of Ben Foster to Old Trafford may hint at us struggling to score lots of goals. However, for some reason, I think there are goals in us today, and I think Rooney will be amongst them. He has been playing quite well and goals are coming I feel. Rooney has not scored in six home Premier League matches. If he fails to score against Birmingham it will equal his longest ever Premier League run without a home goal, set three years ago this month.

We have won the the last seven games at home and don’t see anything other than a win here. The corresponding fixture in St. Andrews ended in a draw with a late Lee Bowyer strike but I don’t envisage this one being that close.

Prediction

United 3-0 Birmingham
