Manchester United have opened talks with Chelsea over a shock £70m deal to sign Marcos Alonso this summer, according to reports in Spain via TeamTalk.

Jose Mourinho is on the market for a new left-back as Ashley Young turns 33 in July and Luke Shaw is seemingly on his way out of Old Trafford after a bust-up with the United boss.

The likes of Ryan Sessegnon, Danny Rose and Alex Sandro have all been linked with a move to United in recent months but it looks like Mourinho has a surprise target in mind.

TeamTalk are citing a report from Don Balon that claims United have opened talks with Chelsea over the signing of Marcos Alonso and they hope to agree a shock £70m deal for the full-back ahead of the summer.

The Spanish publication says United are ready to make Alonso an offer he can’t refuse by promising him a huge pay rise on his current £90k-a-week wage if he makes the move to Old Trafford.

Alonso has been one of Chelsea’s most consistent players since joining the club from Fiorentina in 2016 with the 27-year-old scoring 7 goals in his 39 appearances in all competitions this season.

The Blues have shown in the past with the sales of Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic they are willing to do business with United if the price is right and they also signed Emerson Palmieri from Roma in January so they have a ready-made replacement for Alonso lined-up.
