Man Utd ready To Pay £40m To Sign 24-Year-Old French International

Manchester United are prepared to pay £40m to sign Raphael Varane as Real Madrid get ready to cash-in on the talented centre-back this summer

The transfer window is closed but managers are working hard on their plans for the summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd are ready to make their move for Raphael Varane…

Manchester United are prepared to pay £40m to sign Raphael Varane as Real Madrid get ready to cash-in on the talented centre-back this summer, according to the Mirror.

Jose Mourinho is gearing-up for another busy summer in the transfer market as he looks to build a squad capable of challenging for major trophies and a new centre-back on the agenda.

Speculation persists that Phil Jones and Chris Smalling could leave at the end of the season while Victor Lindelof has failed to hold down a regular place since making a big-money move from Benfica last year.

Several names have been linked with a move to Old Trafford but it looks as though Mourinho is ready to renew his interest in Varane having tried to sign the French international on several occasions.

Varane only signed a new long-term contract at the Bernabeu last September but the Mirror claim Madrid are now ready to cash-in as part of a huge squad overhaul following a disappointing campaign.

The newspaper says United are prepared to pay £40m to sign the 24-year-old defender this summer but Madrid may try and hold out for around £50m given Varane’s huge potential.

United obviously have the financial firepower to meet Madrid’s reported asking price but I’m sure Ed Woodward will still try and drive a hard bargain with the European giants.

Mourinho knows Varane well having been the man to sign him for Madrid in 2011 but it looks as though he’s hoping to finally be reunited at Old Trafford this summer and I think he’d be a superb signing if they could pull it off.
