Gareth Southgate has offered a positive update on Jack Wilshere after the Arsenal star was ruled out of England’s friendly with Holland on Friday night.

Wilshere was recalled to the England squad by Southgate last week and was looking to make his first appearance for the Three Lions since the 2016 European Championships.

The Arsenal midfielder was fully expected to start against Holland tomorrow night after enjoying a solid run in the first team in recent months having returned to full fitness.

However, Jack was left behind as the rest of the England squad flew out to Amsterdam this afternoon after picking up a knee injury in training this morning.

It sparked fears the 26-year-old could be facing another lengthy spell on the sidelines as Wilshere has endured a tough time with various injury problems throughout his career.

However, thankfully, Southgate has played down those fears after confirming the latest injury is nothing serious and he hopes Wilshere will recover within a few days.

Southgate is quoted as saying by the Evening Standard.

“Jack felt some tendon in his knee. It’s something he’s felt before. It’s nothing too serious.

“Hopefully over the next couple of days that will settle down. It’s something that in the past has settled down quickly.”

This news comes as a huge relief as it would have been devastating for Jack and Arsenal if he had picked up another serious injury just as he was looking to put his injury woes behind him.

It remains to be seen whether Wilshere will recover in time to take on Italy next Tuesday but he should be available for Arsenal’s Premier League clash with Stoke next weekend.
