New Development Hands Arsenal & Liverpool Boost In Pursuit Of Bundesliga Star

Arsenal and Liverpool have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Max Meyer after he cancelled a scheduled meeting with Schalke to discuss his future

The transfer window is closed but managers are working hard on their plans for the summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Max Meyer has edged closer to a move away from Schalke…

Arsenal and Liverpool have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Max Meyer after he cancelled a scheduled meeting with Schalke to discuss his future, according to the Mirror.

Meyer has been with Schalke his entire career having joined the club as a kid and he progressed through the youth system to become one the most exciting young talents in German football.

The 22-year-old initially made his name as a winger but he’s excelled since being converted in to a deep-lying central midfielder this season by boss Domenico Tedesco.

However, Meyer’s future at the Veltins Arena is in serious doubt as his contract expires in June and he’s so far been unable to agree terms over an extension despite Schalke’s best efforts to tie him down.

The situation has alerted clubs in the Premier League with the Mirror claiming that Arsenal and Liverpool are showing a keen interest in signing the German international on a free transfer this summer.

Meyer and his agent were due to hold fresh talks with Schalke over his future this week but in a fresh twist, president Clemens Tonnies has revealed the meeting was cancelled at the last minute.

Tonnies is quoted as saying by the Mirror:

“I had an appointment with Max and his advisor, which was cancelled by his agent on short notice,”

The news will no doubt alert Arsenal and Liverpool as this will be interpreted as a sure sign that Meyer is ready to leave Schalke when his deal expires at the end of the season.

Arsene Wenger is ready to revamp his midfield options with Jack Wilshere yet to sign a new deal while Santi Cazorla’s career is in doubt due to a long-term injury and Meyer is firmly on his radar.

However, Jurgen Klopp is also in the market for midfield reinforcements as Emre Can is set to leave Anfield when his contract expires in June and Liverpool are also seemingly on Meyer’s trail.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming months but I think Meyer would be an excellent signing on a free transfer if Arsenal or Liverpool were able to snap him up this summer.
