Manchester United are confident of pulling off a £40m swoop for Douglas Costa after making an initial enquiry for the on loan Bayern Munich attacker, according to the Mirror.
Costa made his name at Shakhtar Donetsk before joining Bayern in 2015 but his time in Germany didn’t go according to plan as he struggled to settle during a two-year spell at the Allianz Arena.
The Brazilian international joined Juventus on a year-long loan last summer and has rediscovered some of his best form as he’s helped lead the Italian giants to the quarter finals of the Champions League and battle to retain the Serie A title.
It seems Costa has now attracted interest from the Premier League as the Mirror claim Man Utd are plotting a £40m swoop for the attacking midfielder at the end of the season.
Juve have the option to make Costa’s move permanent this summer but the newspaper report says United are confident they can persuade him to make a switch to Old Trafford instead.
Jose Mourinho needs to further strengthen his squad this summer if United are to compete for major trophies next season and it seems Costa has now emerged as a prime target.
The Mirror claim Mourinho has instructed Ed Woodward to put the wheels in motion to sign the 27-year-old and United chiefs have received encouragement after holding preliminary talks with the players camp.
Costa predominantly plays as a left winger so he would compete with Alexis Sanchez for a place in the starting eleven but both players are also comfortable playing on the opposite flank if needed.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks but I think Costa would be an excellent addition to the squad if United were able to pull off this £40m swoop.
