Manchester United have stolen a march on Arsenal and Liverpool after opening talks with the agent of £50m-rated Napoli midfielder Jorginho, according to the Mirror.
Jorginho has developed in to one of the best defensive midfielders in Italian football having starred for Napoli since joining the club from Verona in the summer of 2014.
The 26-year-old has been an integral part of Mauricio Sarri’s starting eleven this season as he’s been virtually ever-present to help the Naples club battle it out with Juventus for the Serie A title.
The Brazilian-born star has caught the attention of clubs here in the Premier League as the Mirror claim that Arsenal, Liverpool and United have all expressed their interest in signing the midfielder this summer.
Arsene Wenger is expected to be in the market for a new midfielder as Santi Cazorla is unlikely to play for the Gunners again due to injury while Jack Wilshere’s future at the Emirates is in doubt as he’s yet to sign a new deal.
Jurgen Klopp is also on the look out for a new midfielder as Emre Can’s contract expires in June and he’s being tipped to leave Anfield having failed to agree terms over an extension.
Jorginho is on Arsenal and Liverpool’s radar, however, United have now stolen a march on their rivals as the Mirror cite reports from Rai Sport that claim the Red Devils have opened talks with the players camp.
The publication says United chiefs spoke to Jorginho’s agent, Joao Santos, after Italy’s 2-0 defeat to Argentina at the Etihad Stadium on Friday night to try and persuade the player to make a move to Old Trafford.
Jose Mourinho needs to strengthen his midfield options this summer as Michael Carrick is retiring while Marouane Fellaini is out of contract in June and Jorginho appears to be a prime target.
The report says Napoli have slapped a £50m price tag on his head but that’s unlikely to deter the likes of United, Arsenal or Liverpool so it will be interesting to see where he ends up if Jorginho decides to come to England.
